Why did Our Lady place such emphasis on the Brown Scapular at Lourdes, Fatima and Garabandal?
The scapular and the rosary have long been regarded as “sister practices” in devotion to Our Lady. Remarkably, at all three great Marian apparitions, the scapular holds a significant place.
At Lourdes, Our Lady’s final apparition took place on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
At Fatima, Our Lady of Mount Carmel appeared during the final apparition on 13 October 1917.
At Garabandal, Our Lady chose to identify herself as Our Lady of Mount Carmel, frequently appearing with a large brown scapular hanging from her wrist.
Could this repeated emphasis be an invitation from Our Lady to place ourselves beneath her loving mantle of protection?
